Who am I?
I have wanted to be a teacher for as long as I can remember. My neighbors and I would play school and I would always be the teacher. Education has been a huge part of my life, and is something I believe in and want to peruse. Both of my parents, along with many friends and family members, are educators. I believe this has had a huge effect on me and who I am as a teacher.
I am passionate.
Everything I do, I do with integrity and heart. I put everything into my lesson plans and into my students. There are a lot of issues with our education system today. I was taught that no matter what I do, I should do with passion. If a teacher doesn’t have passion, then why teach? Not only do I motivate my students to learn, I do it in a way that is relevant to them. I don’t only have passion in the activity of teaching, but also for the fact that I serve a purpose much larger than myself.
I am passionate.
I am caring.
I care about each and every one of my students. When they feel, I feel. I want them to always feel comfortable in my classroom. Every student has a different background. Some students walk into my classroom knowing that this is the only place they can go that is consistent, so I am sure to provide a stable classroom environment for them to be in. I also want them to feel comfortable working with all of their peers. Group work is important to me because I believe that all children should learn effective communication strategies, even when it isn’t so easy for them. I create a caring and loving relationship with all of my students. One of my favorite quotes is, “Teaching is a 24 hour, 7 days a week job. Because when you invest in kids, you never stop caring.”
I am caring.
I know I am passionate and caring because I have always been and it really shows in my work. However, this makes me think, who else am I? This is something that I am excited to find out about myself. But for now, this is what I know:
I am learning.
I am inspiring.
I am nurturing.
I am patient.
I am kind.
I am commited.
I am engaging.
I am active.
I am aware.
I am dedicated.
I am changing.
I AM A TEACHER...
What’s your super power?
This is a poem I wrote about who I am as an educator.
